Guidelines for Conflict Resolution

• As a community, we commit to handling conflict.

• Accepting cooperation as a lifestyle means accepting conflict as part of living with others.

• Our community’s process for handling conflict is in the formative stages.

To resolve a conflict:

Step 1: Speak directly to the person you have an issue with as soon as possible to resolve the conflict. (Do not involve a third person for complaining and gossiping.)

If the conflict is not resolved:

Step 2: Enlist an advocate.

An advocate is a person within the community that acts as a coach. She or he listens and helps facilitate communication to bring resolution.

If the conflict is not resolved:

Step 3: The issue is taken to the large group community meeting or to an appropriate subcommittee for resolution. (This may involve an outside mediator.)
